Chris Baker has been involved in Scouting for the past 26 consecutive years. He started out as a Wolf cub and received his Arrow of Light in 1994. He continued his advancement with troop 65 in Gonzalez and earned his Eagle rank in 1999.
In 2002 he helped found his first Venturing crew and served as crew president, then as Associate Advisor after turning 21. He founded Venturing crew 370 in 2004 and currently serves as Advisor. He earned the council level Venturing Leadership Award in 2007. In 2013 he restarted the council Venturing Officers Association and became the VOA advisor. He was named the Pisachi University of Scouting’s Venturing dean in 2013. He’s attended the Southern Region’s Winterfest conference in Gatlinburg, Tennessee seven times. He has represented the Venturing program during council planning sessions since 2012. Chris has served as his district’s camporee chairman for four years and was awarded the District Award of Merit in 2012. He is a member of the Order of the Arrow’s Quinipissa Lodge and received the Vigil honor in 2013. He has been serving as Chapter Adviser since 2013 and was named lodge co-adviser for ceremonies in 2015. Chris has served as COPE and aquatics director for summer camp. He has earned his Wood Badge beads and has served as NYLT assistant scoutmaster in 2014 and then as scoutmaster in 2015. Chris is currently serving as the Southern Region Area 1 Advisor for the Venturing program.
Chris is a 2008 graduate of Louisiana State University with a degree in fisheries biology. He currently works for the Louisiana department of Wildlife and Fisheries out of New Orleans. He also participates in youth outreach programs with Wildlife and Fisheries.Additionally, Chris volunteers his time to help maintain equipment for the St. Amant High School band.
Chris has been married to his loving wife, Elaine, for the past 9 years. They have one daughter, 5 year old Adrienne, who can’t wait to be a Venturer just like mom and dad. Chris’s parents are Billy and Linda Baker.
