10 Questions with Lydia Borah, 2016-2017 Southern Region Venturing President

Congratulations again to Lydia Borah, the next Southern Region Venturing President. I am so lucky to have gotten to know her over this year; read more to learn a little about Lydia and her plans for the Southern Region VOA!

HW: How does it feel to be the incoming Region President?

LB: Humbling. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity I have been given by my peers. I’m only able to be here because of those who have come before me and those who have supported me.

HW: Why did you start Venturing?

LB: I started Venturing because I’ve always liked challenging myself (that’s a nice way to say I’m competitive).

HW: Why did you choose Venturing, and why do you continue to choose it over everything else you could be doing?

LB: Venturing gives me a way to push myself far beyond my own expectations while being apart of something much larger than myself.

HW: What is your favorite memory of Venturing?

LB: It’s hard to choose just one memory! The one that sticks out the most is when my crew decided to be ~creative~ and we found a way to play glow-in-the-dark badminton!

HW: What is something you are proud of that you have done in Venturing?

LB: I’m very proud of being able to give back to my fellow scouts. I’ve been given so many opportunities; I want others to have the same if not more.

HW: What are some of your plans for Venturing this year?

LB: There are currently a lot of things the incoming SR VOA are planning to do. We’ve got a great team of strong leaders that are going to rock the socks off of Venturing! More specifically though, we’ll be continuing the legacy of the current SR VOA while expanding the reach and quality of Venturing in the Southern Region.

HW: If you have to choose one thing, what would you most like to do during your term?

LB:  I’d love to watch The Office with all the Officers! Maybe we can make that happen during an event. More importantly, I want to be able to make a positive impact on the Region and enable others to do the same.

HW: Are you anticipating any road bumps? Why or why not?

LB: In life there are always road bumps, but I strongly feel that our team will be able to handle whatever lemons we get!

HW: What do you hope Venturing will look like in the future?

LB: A program where anyone can be anything surrounded by their friends and family… maybe even a robot dog.

HW: What hashtag describes you the best?

LB: I think I would call myself a #dreamer. If you can see it you can be it!
