Venturing Olympics Part II: The Highlights

by Maria Hagen, Southern Region Venturing Vice President of Program and Atlanta Area Council VOA President

It was a rainy Friday afternoon as the Venturing Olympics staff and crews drove to Woodruff Scout Camp in Blairsville, Georgia. So, of course, crews could arrive and be greeted by a DOUBLE RAINBOW over Woodruff’s lake, next to registration, because it is always a GREAT DAY FOR SCOUTING.

venturing olympicsIt was a sunny day for all of Saturday’s competitions with crews vying for First Place by the end of the day. The teams had a chance in the morning to slingshot their way up the charts in the “Live Version of Angry Birds,” show off their new kicks in “Soccer-gon,” make a splash during aquatics events including kayaking, canoeing, small boat sailing, paddle boarding, and rowboat tug-of-war, challenge themselves with COPE activities, and have a shot at scoring points with archery and rifle.

In the afternoon the games continued while crews navigated their way through a “GPS Canoe Orienteering competition,” breezed past the image (2)other crews with Ultimate Frisbee, and swept the floor with the competition during Quidditch. After dinner, crews had one last chance to capture first place during participation in “Capture the Flag” and ate up any remaining point in “Hungry Hungry Hippos- the Human Version.” Then, the teams had a chance to mingle with the new friends they made throughout the day during the Ice Cream Social before ending the evening with a Closing Ceremony Campfire Local Crew 204 emerged victorious.image (1)
